Could it be a white Christmas?
Yes it could; all the signs are there, that the last third of the month will see the right conditions for some decent snow.
Snow watchers should start to get excited around the 20th of the month I reckon.
All about the weather, Personal Weather Stations, Ballogie and surrounding area in Scotland.

Notice how we have had no wind between 13:30 Yesterday and 08:30 today?
Well we haven't had a lot, in fact it has been particularly calm but a frozen windy thing didn't help.
First 'proper' snow of the winter this morning.
Not for long though, so make the most of it, should only last a day or so.
We see that there appears to be a bit of a cool spell on the way for early next week, so enjoy! could even be a little snow with it, at ballogie weather levels at least.
Noticed plenty on the hills today anyway....
Looks like more wind and rain for us for the next couple of days...
But while we hold onto our hats and and moan about the odd bit of mud up here lets hold a wee thought for those in Cumbria who continue to be battered...
Looking forward for all those waiting for snow, it looks like it will be the end of December before we get anything worthy of note.... Lets see!!!
October was the wettest month of the year so far and everyone in this area of Scotland seem to be fed up with all the rain.
But things are changing and the climate, as we are so often told is becoming more unpredictable; So lets get used to it, live with it, see each new force the weather throws at us as a challenge, not just something to moan about. Embrace life and this wonderful area we live in; look around, there are always people worse of.
End of sermon......
Anyone notice our down time?
The station went down late on the 15th during bad weather and as at this time we were enjoying wonderful weather and hospitality in the far north of Scotland (near loch Tongue) the station stayed down till our return.
Sorry and all that, but breaks have to be taken and I'm sure that if the Davis software was more reliable then it would not be a problem!
Am thinking of changing software over the next winter anyway, any sugestions?
Can't help but notice how cold it is after last week:
Well we think this weather is going to be around for the next week, dominated by the North.
Today we saw fresh SNOW on the hills at Braemar (so keep the skies out....) and I don't think we have seen the end, (more to follow over the weekend).
It's all down to that cold sun you ken, we need to stoke it up a bit......
Maybe next year!
Or are we in trouble?
Who knows.................................
What a fantastic week it has been, clear skies, summer sun, but cold easterly winds, now what?
looks like the change is on the way, Friday will start fine but increasing cloud will bring rain and wind by late afternoon through to Saturday with unsettled weather to follow.
Some sure signs we noted today at Ballogie Weather:-
The Swallows are back looking for their nesting spots, looks like only two pair at the moment.
The first runner bean has shown it's head above ground,
Only 4.5 Inches of nuts have been devoured this week from the bird feeder.
The grass is greener (now lets not get silly) and what a great show of Daffs this year.
---------------
Now; will we get the weather?
I recon:- Better Summer than last year although still a bit showery leading to a colder Winter.
See how that pans out.......................................
Forget the last Blog;
apart from today, it looks like there is some realy great weather on its way for Saturday and Sunday.
Lets hope so...........
What a change from last week, looks like the unsettled week we were expecting is now turning into just a bad horid one.
The front that was out to the west and was thought to be just clipping the West Country now appears to have increased and moved North.
Looks like the Easter weekend could be a washout as well!
Worth watching this one..................
What a fantastic Spring week, Blue skies, warm temperatures and calm winds; just wonderful!!
Bit of a cange on the way over the next 24hrs with some rain in the air, but just remember the last week!
yes we, along with others in the area have a power-cut at the moment, so all uploads will be suspended till it is fixed.
In fact I'm using the last of the battery power to send this, even the mobile doesn't seem to want to send emails.
Cold tea for us all electric'ers then, hope it's not for long.......................
Came back on just before 7pm and held ok..
What a change! this week from last;
Almost summer last week with local temperatures making 18 deg C, even the weekend wasn't bad, now what's happened?
The week ahead looks grim, today saw single figure temps all day with frequent sleet at low levels and snow on the hills, locally high winds as well.
All thanks to a northerly cold front.
So put the shorts away and get the winter wear back on..................
Having taken advise from Davis about my data errors I decided to follow their tips and re-set the data logger and station consel. Un fortunatly this has mucked up the Baromatic settings, which still do not want to calm down.
So will be leaving it to settle for a day or so to see what happens.....
Not quite as bad as had been expected!
But still due to be quite damp on Saturday with a spell of high winds around mid day, mild to.
Make the most of Sunday!!!
Mmm;
What do you think?
Looks like a lot of the wet stuff in the air pushing in from the west, but then we seem to be getting cold air North/NorthEast toward evening.
Could give a dump of white tomorrow evening...
Just my thought.. see how it goes!!!!!!
Looks like it's moving forward; more into Tuesday night/Wednesday morning now'
Well I know that's up for debate! but it is the 1st March.
So whats going on?
Well; a fantastic day here at Ballogie with Solar rad in the high 600's and only average wind; looking around, others seem to agree that even if it isn't here quite yet, Spring is definitely in the air, birds are singing, grass is trying to grow, all the bulbs are showing their fingers above ground and there's even the odd, brave crocus among the snow drops; the sap is rising and the trees have started to bud, the last remnants of snow on the hills gets less every day.
None of this means that Winter is over yet, remember last year with Spring showing snow well late on, but still; hey, it does make you feel good.
Enjoy..................
What a change!
Wet and warm, this will see the snow away.
Whats the betting on more snow for next week?
We haven't had much wind over the last few hours, but we have had some; just not enough to stop an accumulation of snow from settling on the anemometer, freezing and preventing any movement until cleared.
Pretty persistent the snow today should clear later we think by 3pm.
Good old BT Broadband is still holding on.......Just
Weather is worsening (more Snow) and things are getting a bit Iffy.
So if all goes down then we will be back later......
Enjoy sledging.
Seems Davis has had problems with some of it's Temp/Humidity sensors.
A replacement "upgrade" is, I am told; on it's way.
Weekend or early next week.
Looks like the Davis's temperature sensor has given out.
Last night saw some intermittent problems then around 10pm all was lost.
Contacting retailer today........
Been waiting for this;
today saw the first signs of the snowdrops poking their heads through at Ballogie Weather.
I always think of it as the first signs of Winter coming to an end, thats silly realy, but as the first flowers of the year I think its still worth a marked event.....
I notice that there are no overlays for the maps at the moment.
Lets see what happens later, before I get things changed.
We now have a gallery on the web site where you can view a few photographs.
We hope it will be of interest and bring some pleasure.
It is our intention to add further images and captions as time goes by.
What a fantastic day;
Blue skies, white hills, fresh with hardly any sign of wind; just great.
Enjoy it while it lasts, tomorrow's another, all-together different day.
Waking up to the white stuff today, more sleet/slush than anything, giving a covering all the same.
Don't thing it will hang around for long, ESE, ENE wind though with the front pushing up from the South could be worth a watch.
Well, what a night that was;
well over an inch of rain here with temperatures around 3 deg, would have fallen as snow on the hills though.
Looks like colder air is on it's way so a possibility of snow at lower levels Friday or Saturday.
mmmm...
Thought the problem was just on IE6 and below but then looked at IE7 to find that the two column layout was just one.
Deleated the IE specific CSS from the server, leaving just the <=IE6 specific over-ride and all seems to be ok...
Let me know if it's not!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok;
Looked ok till I published it;
IE 6 version home page is not working correctly, can't quite work out why!
Working on it........................................
Decided to publish the updated site a little earlier than expected.
We now have drop-down menu’s (except if your viewing using IE6 or below, in which case I’ve done you a static-left menu, but you really should get a better browser) which allow far more versatility and content.
Hope you like it? Still using HTML & CSS
But keep watching have some PHP in the side lines.
Bye-the-way; storms brewing for the weekend.........west though we hope to miss it!
Blustery old weekend ahead;
So we are expecting some data upload problems.
Have already seen internet conection failures and power outages; so only just holding on at the moment.
Yes, at last;
Got web hosting, got the .com and moved the site on 1st Jan, well what else do you do on new years day.
Seems to be working well, uploads are nice and fast with room for future webcam and stuff.
Early days yet I know!
Getting to work on the web site now.
